Why I Am Studying Make-up AGAIN?

Since this September I have started University to study make-up, my course is an Fda in Make-up and Hair for Media and Theatre which is a 2 year course and I then can apply for a third year to get my full degree. The reason I have decided to go back into education is because I would like to have the highest qualification you can get as a make-up artist for two reasons. One being just pride for myself and a feeling of achievement and the second is I would really like to go into lecturing/teaching so I will probably be doing my teaching top up degree either straight afterwards or I'll have a gap year.

Bridal Trials - What Happens In A Bridal Trial

East Sussex, UK
Hello Brides to be! After getting a lot of questions and confusion about what a bridal trial really is, I have decided to write it down here in a post for you all to read as a lengthy Facebook message can be a bit over whelming. If you are getting married yourself and are thinking of hiring me as your make-up artist then this is the trial procedure!

Balmain Hair Extensions - What's Happening

If you have been following my page over the last few months you will know that just before I completed my Level 3 hairdressing I also completed a course through Balmain on cold method hair extensions. At the time I wrote a little 'watch this space' post about starting to offer this service to all of you so I am just going to start by explaining the situation with that.

Studying Make-up Artistry - My Experience

For those of you who don't know I have a qualification in make-up. The exact qualification I have is called: VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Theatrical, Special Effects and Hair and Media Make-Up (QCF) which is quite a mouthful and never fits in any of the qualification boxes online so I just called it Make-up Artistry for short. The course I took was a year long and I studied it at Sussex Coast College in Hastings. I believe the course was only running for 3 years there before they shut it down so I'm not quite sure where they run this course anymore but I'm sure there are lots similar!

For my experience and low down on the course, what I learnt etc. then please keep reading.

Is Your Make-up Artist Or Hair Stylist Reputable?

I have decided as a service provider to provide my clients and future clients with proof of my qualifications. I have done this because it is all so easy for anyone to write that they are fully qualified and fully insured and I believe that if you as a customer allow someone into your home to perform a service for you they should be both of those things.

The reasons why I believe you should be:

Lying about being fully qualified and fully insured is actually illegal and is classed as fraud. Fraud Act 2006.

Fully qualified
You can get good make-up artist out there who consider themselves self taught as they haven't gone to any sort of course. Visually their work can be amazing no doubt, the only thing I worry about is that they have not gone through the necessary training to provide their client no health and safety risks. If you are to study make-up and gain a qualification you get taught how to recognise skin infections and contraindications that wouldn't allow you to carry out a service. It will also teach you how to decanter products so not using a lip gloss from the tube straight to your clients lips. That is a massive no no but I have seen make-up artist's do it. It only takes one client to have something and then you have infected your next future clients and yourself. I have actually had another make-up artist borrow my gel eye liner and to see her use it straight from the pot on everyone and so I had to chuck it away afterwards. It's the same concept as going into Superdrug and picking up the lipstick there and wiping it on your lips. You just wouldn't do it for the obvious reasons.

With hair stylists you shouldn't be letting anyone loose on your hair who isn't qualified. You are dealing with all sorts of chemicals and cutting is an art. Hair extension technicians should also be qualified as if they aren't putting the right amount of hair with each strand of hair extension they could leave you with traction alopecia.

Fully insured
If you are allowing someone into your home you should definitely make sure they are insured. If you have a mobile hair stylist round and they happen to spill some dark brown hair dye on your carpet that isn't going to come out and you need that agreement of insurance there to cover the cost of your carpet because as a customer you should not have to pay for that yourself.

My qualifications are as follows, plus my insurance is at the bottom.

Wella Hair College Competition: Rose Gold Hair

Every year at the college the Hair and Beauty department at Sussex Coast College put on a competition for the students. This gives us a chance to put together a theme and idea to recreate in order to win a price! Feeling very old, this is my 3rd and final year of doing this show and I decided to showcase colour as it is my favourite aspect of hairdressing.

Men wearing make-up?

Yes lads wear make-up too on set and it's called 'male grooming'. This goes for most media such as TV and photographic purposes, men are getting dolled up to make their skin look it's best. Obviously this is totally understandable due to being exposed in front of god knows how many people plus the world has an obsession with perfectness, don't we. No pores allowed haha.

My Skin Care Routine

I guess your skin care routine should cover the products you use on the whole of your body but I'm just going to cover my face regime for now. The skin care items I use are normally based upon what ever was on offer in Superdrug or Boots at the time so it can change, especially if I haven't become obsessed with a product. Some of these items are things I have tried for the first time, because of that I'll let you know throughout this post what I think of them and for reference I have some god damned oily skin!

Valencia Rose Hair: Worst Customer Service EVER

Hastings, East Sussex, UK
Being a make-up artist and hair stylist, I am obsessed with all things image related and have been wearing hair extensions since around the age of 12 back when I got my first synthetic pony tail clip in. Since that time I would like to think I have progressed slightly within the world of hair extensions and have gone on to pay hundreds of pounds to find the most luxurious hair within my price region. After religiously following a lot of Youtubers I came across a brand called Valencia Rose who seemed to be getting a lot of praise for their products even from some of the biggest youtubers. One of their main ambassadors (not sure what the proper term would be but we'll call her that) is called Tyme.
I have always thought Tyme looks incredible and she claims to only wear Valencia Rose Hair, no other brand/company so after watching many of her hair transformations I was really eager to get some of their hair. Turns out this was a very big mistake...
